A Clay County grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday, charging Trevor Lee, 14, with two counts of first-degree murder in the killing of his parents.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The 14-year-old accused of shooting and killing his parents at their Middleburg home last week is now facing first-degree murder charges.

A Clay County grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday, charging 14-year-old Trevor Lee with two counts of first-degree murder for killing his parents, the State Attorney’s Office, Fourth Judicial Circuit announced in a press release.

A spokesperson for the State Attorney’s Office confirmed Lee will be charged as an adult.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the home at Silver Point and County Road 220 in Middleburg on Aug. 4 and found 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith dead.

The police report said Lee and Smith were found in their bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds and several spent shell casings were found in the room.

The sheriff’s office said the initial investigation found Lee and his parents got into an argument the night before the shooting, and the teen appears to have shot them with their gun before leaving it at the scene.

Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said Lee then called 911 and said he shot and killed his parents at their home and walked to a nearby church. Lee was taken into custody a short time later.

Lee’s next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 19 in Clay County.

The case will be prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Pam Hazel, Ashley Terry and Jamie Cona.
