One lucky Project Runway designer is about to take home the blue ribbon from the science fair, and it’s all thanks to a crossover with Abbott Elementary.

In a DECIDER exclusive clip from this week’s new episode of the Freeform series, Abbott educators Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter) and Jacob Hill (Chris Perfetti) are stopping by to introduce a fan favorite segment: the unconventional materials challenge. In this installment, the remaining designers will be forced to come up with a spectacular look using substances from around the Abbott Elementary science fair.

In the clip, Perfetti and Walter — joined by Season 21 judge Law Roach — introduce the challenge that will see hopeful trend setters relying on tools one is more likely to find in a classroom than on a runway.

“So, as some of you may know, Lisa and I play teachers, and we have been known to get into a fair bit of mischief on our show,” Perfetti says in the clip, standing alongside his Abbott Elementary co-star. “Did someone say fair? Because, as you may notice, we are here, after the school’s science fair, and it will be your job to provide the mischief.”

While the clip cuts out just after Roach announces that the challenge will focus on using unconventional materials, it does appear that it could include discs, cotton balls, and other commonplace substitutes for cloth and fabric. And they only have one day to pull it off!

Check out the exclusive look at Episode 4 in the player above. Will the remaining style savants rise to the challenge and make unforgettable looks? All’s (science) fair in love and war!

Returning to TV after more than two years, Heidi Klum is back for Season 21 of Project Runway alongside ELLE editor-in-chief Nina Garcia and Roach as fellow judges. Joining as a mentor for the designers is Season 4 winner Christian Siriano. Guest judges this season include Sofia Vergara, Sara Foster, Tyra Banks, Zac Posen, Michael Kors, Nikki Glaser and more.

Project Runway airs new episodes on Thursdays at 9 p.m. and streams the next day on Hulu and Disney+. Abbott Elementary Season 5 begins airing on Oct. 1 at 8:30 p.m. local.

If you’re new to Hulu, you can get started with a 30-day free trial on the streamer’s basic (with ads) plan. After the trial period, you’ll pay $9.99/month. If you want to upgrade to Hulu ad-free, it costs $18.99/month.

If you want to stream even more and save a few bucks a month while you’re at it, we recommend subscribing to one of the Disney+ Bundles, all of which include Hulu. These bundles start at $10.99/month for ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu and goes up to $29.99/month for Disney+, Hulu, and Max, all ad-free.
