When Alien: Earth makes its long-awaited debut tonight on Hulu and FX, it will introduce fans of the Alien franchise to a vast cast of new characters. As you’ll learn as soon as Alien: Earth starts, some of these new characters are going to be ordinary old humans, just like us. Some of these are going to be classic Alien androids known as synthetics. You know, the ones who can imitate human behavior, but bleed milk? Still others will be considered cyborgs, people with nifty augmentations that make them more powerful. Most important to Alien: Earth of all, though, is a new race called hybrids.
Alien: Earth‘s heroine Wendy (Sydney Chandler) is the first hybrid ever made. We first meet her on “Neverland,” the private base of child prodigy Boy Kavalier (Samuel Blenkin), as Marcy, a little girl with terminal cancer. Boy Kavalier and his team have cracked the code on how to upload human minds into synthetic bodies, only they can only make the science work with the more elastic brains of children. Over the course of Alien: Earth Episode 1, we watch as Boy Kavalier assembles his own tribe of “lost boys” all led by Wendy.
When Weyland-Yutani deep space research vessel crashes on Boy Kavalier’s land, Wendy encourages the kids to embark on an adventure to save her brother Hermit (Alex Lawther) from the disaster area. Boy Kavalier, on the other hand, is more interested in the five alien species that were on board his rival corporation’s ship.
So who exactly are all these new characters? Who’s a human, who’s a hybrid, and who is something else? Where have you seen the cast of Alien: Earth before?
Sydney Chandler as Wendy
Who is Wendy?: Wendy is the first hybrid made and renamed by the Peter Pan-obsessed Prodigy CEO, Boy Kavalier. She is super strong, super fast, and super curious about the world. She is also obsessed with following her real life older brother via security cameras. Wendy’s real name was Marcy.
What is Wendy?: As we said, Wendy is a hybrid, a humanoid robot “infused with human consciousness,” per FX. Essentially, Marcy was dying of cancer and volunteered for this risky new procedure. Marcy’s consciousness was transferred into Wendy’s body. Now, she is seemingly immortal.
Who Plays Wendy in Alien: Earth?: Wendy is played by Sydney Chandler, an actress who has previously been seen in Pistol, Sugar, and Don’t Worry, Darling. She is the real life daughter of actor Kyle Chandler.
Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh
Who is Kirsh?: Kirsh is a Synth who works for and is loyal to Prodigy. He tends to be unapologetically cold and driven by a curiosity to learn more. He’s sort of a babysitter to the hybrids.
What is Kirsh?: A synthetic, or Synth, or a humanoid robot powered by AI. One of the twists in the original 1979 Alien was that science officer Ash (Ian Holm) was a synth the whole time.
Who Plays Kirsh in Alien: Earth?: Timothy Olyphant plays Kirsh in Alien: Earth. Olyphant is known for his work in beloved shows like Deadwood, Justified, and The Mandalorian. He’s a descendent of the Vanderbilt family
Alex Lawther as Hermit
Who is Hermit?: Hermit is Wendy’s older brother. As far as he knows, his little sister Marcy died of cancer. Now he works as a medic for Prodigy in New Siam. We learn he wanted to move to Mars to become a doctor.
What is Hermit?: He’s a human being, baby!
Who Plays Hermit in Alien: Earth?: Hermit is played by Alex Lawther, an English actor who first popped in The End of the F***ing World and Black Mirror. He more recently played Nemik, an idealistic rebel whose manifesto takes hold of the galaxy, in Andor.
Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier
Who is Boy Kavalier?: Boy Kavalier is a now grown up child prodigy who, get this, founded the corporation, Prodigy. He’s obsessed with Peter Pan and has named his secret island base “Neverland.” He names each new hybrid after a character from the J.M. Barrie book.
What is Boy Kavalier?: He’s human, but then he’s also a super godlike corporate tyrant.
Who Plays Boy Kavalier in Alien: Earth?: Samuel Blenkin plays Boy Kavalier in Alien: Earth. Blenkin has appeared in Mickey 17, The Witcher: Blood Origin, and Mary & George.
Babou Ceesay as Morrow
Who is Morrow?: We first meet Morrow as a member of the USSS Maginot crew. However, as stuff gets real, we soon realize he’s not wholly human. He is, however, a wildly loyal employee of Weyland-Yutani, willing to go to extreme lengths to secure the mission.
What is Morrow?: Morrow is a cyborg, which means he is a human being who has been augmented with technology.
Who Plays Morrow in Alien: Earth?: Morrow is played by Babou Ceesay, who has appeared in Wolfe, We Hunt Together, and Into the Badlands.
Essie Davis as Dame Sylvia & David Rysdahl as Arthur Sylvia
Who and What are Dame and Arthur Sylvia?: Dame Sylvia and Arthur Sylvia are humans and scientists helping Boy Kavalier create the hybrids. Arthur seems to be more invested in the technical aspect of the project, while Dame is something of a therapist and mother figure to the kids. They are also married to each other.
Who Plays Dame and Arthur Sylvia in Alien: Earth?: Dame Sylvia is played by Essie Davis, known for her work in everything from The Babadook to Game of Thrones. David Rhysdale plays Arthur. FX fans might remember him from Noah Hawley’s most recent season of Fargo.
Lily Newmark as Nibs, Erana James as Curly, Adarsh Gourav as Slightly, Jonathan Ajayi as Smee, and Kit Young as Tootles
Who and What are Nibs, Curly, Slightly, Smee, and Tootles?: Nibs (red-haired girl), Curly (dark-haired girl), Slightly (South Asian boy), Smee (Black boy), and Tootles (mixed race boy) are the other hybrids made by Prodigy after Wendy. They all have their own distinct histories and personalities that will affect how they handle interacting with the aliens.
Who Plays Nibs, Curly, Slightly, Smee, and Tootles in Alien: Earth?: Nibs is played by Lily Newmark (Lockwood & Co.), Curly is played by Erana James (The Wilds), Slightly is played by Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger), Smee is played by Jonathan Ajayi (Noughts + Crosses), and Tootles is played by Kit Young (Shadow & Bone).
Diêm Camille as Siberian & Moe Bar-El as Rashidi
Who and What are Siberian & Rashidi?: Siberian and Rashidi are humans working as security officers in New Siam. Hermit is part of the same unit, ergo they are friends.
Who Plays Siberian & Rashidi in Alien: Earth?: Siberian is played by Diêm Camille (Washington Black, The Wheel of Time) and Rashidi is played by Moe Bar-El (The Bureau, Tehran).
Sandra Yi Sencindiver as Yutani
Who is Yutani?: Yutani is the head of the Weyland-Yutani corporation, and a great dresser, to boot.
What is Yutani?: Like Boy Kavalier, she’s human, but because she’s obscenely wealthy and powerful, how human she is remains a question.
Who Plays Yutani in Alien: Earth?: Yutani is played by Sandra Yi Sencindiver, who has enjoyed some really juicy turns in two other recent genre faves, The Wheel of Time and Foundation.
