Officers say the suspect fled from a home on NE Maple Lane Monday morning.
LAKE CITY, Fla. — The Lake City Police Department is asking the community for any information regarding the whereabouts of a man who they say aimed a shotgun at his spouse.
The suspect, Gregory Stockton, is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
According to a press release, officers responded Monday morning to a call from a woman who wanted police escort to gather her belongings after she got into an argument with her spouse, later identified as Stockton, on NE Maple Lane.
She stated that during the argument, he took out a short barreled shotgun from a grey bag, aimed it at the her, and said “The only way you’re leaving is in a body bag.”
Officers attempted to detain Stockton before they say he rode off from the scene on a pink bicycle. He was believed to have been seen entering his home from behind.
With help from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, a perimeter was established; however, Stockton was not found.
During a search warrant of Stockton’s home, officers say they found the shotgun inside a grey bag matching the victims description, as well as several shotgun shells. An arrest warrant was approved by a judge shortly after.
“This was a dangerous situation involving a firearm, and our officers acted swiftly to protect the victim and secure the area,” Chief of Police Gerald Butler said. “We thank the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team for their assistance and remain committed to locating and apprehending this individual before anyone else is harmed.”
Any information regarding Stockton’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Lake City Police Department at (386) 752-4343. Information can also be reported anonymously by calling the LCPD TIPS line at (386) 719-2068 or Crime Stoppers of Columbia County at (386) 754-7099.
