LAMAR, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Washington County Long Term Recovery Group hosted another “Road to Recovery” resource expo on Tuesday at Lamar Elementary School to provide a central hub for flood victims to obtain ongoing assistance following Hurricane Helene.

According to the group, resources available during the expo included local housing assistance, food distribution, mental health services, volunteer/rebuild teams and organizations, and FEMA representatives.

Long Term Recovery Group operating member James Hanson told News Channel 11 Tuesday evening that although it’s been nearly a year since Helene struck, there’s still a multitude of resources flood victims can utilize.

“We don’t want people to think that we’re gone, they’ve been forgotten,” he said. “Our partners are still here, our partners are still willing to help. We know that times change. Maybe plan A has fallen through the cracks a little bit, and you need some help getting moved into plan B for your long-term recovery purpose.”

Hanson said that a great deal of rebuilding progress has been made in the county, but there is much more to be done.

“We’ve had great success so far. We’ve got 20-plus people that have already moved back into new houses in Washington County. We’ve got over 68 houses under construction right now, but there’s more to do.”

Hanson added that the Washington County Long Term Recovery Group’s job won’t be done until each flood victim in the county’s case is closed.
