BLOOMINGDALE, Ga. () — The New Hampstead football team looks to make it back to the state playoffs in 2025. The Phoenix will have a new quarterback under center this year.
Last season, New Hamsptead was known for putting a lot of points on the board fast. A big reason was the play of the back-to-back Michael Finoccaro award-winning quarterback Rashawn Truell.
Now with Truell off to Savannah State, head coach Kyle Hockman’s nephew Erik, the twin brother of wide receiver Ben Hockman, will look to fill his shoes.
Coach Hockman says Erik has been adapting to his new role fast.
“I have to get on him occasionally,” Hockman said, “but not very much. You know, he’s running the show. He’s making his checks. He’s calling protections. He’s checking the run game, all kinds of stuff. And my job is to allow him to play fast.”
The Phoneix open the season on the road in Guyton. Their game against South Effingham is Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
