Hi there – Stormteam 3 Meteorologist Alysa Carsley here – let’s have a fabulous Friday! After two back-to-back soggy and rainy weekends, we finally get to enjoy a typical summer weekend with only scattered storms.

Highs today remain in the mid 90s. A cold front will slowly push through later today and give us a chance of scattered storms. Unfortunately, even behind the front, high temperatures remain in the lower 90s. Scattered storms are possible again tomorrow. By Sunday, high pressure starts to move in and will start to dry us out. Isolated to stray storms will be possible Sunday through midweek.

TROPICS UPDATE: Erin

As of 8 am, Erin remains a strong tropical storm with max winds of 70 mph. It will become our first hurricane of the 2025 season by the end of the day as it continues to move into favorable conditions for development. Over the weekend, further development is expected as Erin could strengthen into a major category 4 hurricane by Sunday.

The steering pattern remains the same through Sunday with the ridge of high-pressure pushing Erin west. By early next week, that high will begin to weaken and Erin will be able to start to turn north. A trough coming off the East Coast will also pull Erin north while tracking Erin between the coast of North Carolina and Bermuda. For us locally, we are expecting an elevated risk of rip currents and rough surf starting in the middle part of next week.
