SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Savannah Mayor Van Johnson announced the City of Savannah has issued a boil water notice for the entire water system, including Chatham County and Effingham County, for 24 hours.

For the duration of the notice, officials recommend boiling all water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking or preparing food. Boiled or bottled water should also be used for brushing teeth, making baby formula and washing fruits and vegetables.

Johnson said in the Facebook update the precaution is “due to a turbidity (cloudiness) issue in the water.” Johnson said the issue has since been corrected.

Johnson said, “We are working closely with the Environmental Protection Agency and conducting tests to ensure water safety. The notice will be lifted as soon as results confirm the water is safe to drink.”

will update the story as more details become available.
