Chicago police shooting: Officer shoots at armed suspect on 71st Street in South Shore, CPD says

CHICAGO (WLS) — A Chicago police officer shot at an armed suspect Friday afternoon in the city’s South Shore neighborhood, CPD said.

Officers saw a suspect pull out a gun just after 2 p.m. in the 2000-block of East 71st Street, police said.

The suspect then fired shots at a victim, before running away, police said.

Two officers then followed the suspect, and one officer shot at the suspect, CPD said.

No one is in custody, and no one was injured, police said.

The Chicago Civilian Office of Police Accountability and Investigative Response Team are investigating.

The officers involved will be placed on administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days.

There was a large police response in the area, along a row of storefronts.

Video from Chopper 7 showed at least a dozen shots were fired.

Westbound traffic on 71st remained blocked about 4 p.m.
