Three things to watch in Giants' second preseason game

Here’s what to look for in the Giants’ second preseason game against the Jets on Saturday at MetLife Stadium:

Receiver roles

It is always a race and a chase for the final spots at the wide receiver position.

If we assume Jalin Hyatt is safe — in an up and down summer, this might not be a safe assumption — then there are only two spots open.

Will the more seasoned new additions, Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Zach Pascal, claim those roles, or will the younger talents like Montrell Washington, Beaux Collins, or return specialist Gunner Olszewski step in?

How these players fare on special teams could be the difference-maker.

Corner battle

During the preseason opener, Deonte Banks remained on the field well after the other starting defenders had exited, accumulating 20 snaps but not making a significant impact in the game.

He was held out of the second joint practice with the Jets and he might not be ready to play this weekend.

How has his battle with Cor’Dale Flott for a starting cornerback spot going?

It is safe to say neither player has reached out and grabbed the job.

Line dancing

Evan Neal was banged up and unavailable for the first preseason game and missed the first joint practice session with the Jets.

He was able to participate the next day and put some good stuff on film.

He needs real game action for the Giants to gauge how the transition to guard is going.

At this point, it seems unlikely he will be able to unseat veteran Greg Van Roten for the starting spot at right guard.

It is a long season, though, and Neal figures to get his shot at some point.

His size and strength is impossible to ignore.
