GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — Two agencies responded to a fire overnight Friday at a two-story house that appeared to be under construction in Gibson City.

WCIA’s partners with the Ford County Chronicle reported that at approximately 11:51 p.m. on Aug. 15, the Gibson City Fire Protection District was dispatched to an unoccupied structure fire in the 300 block of N Melvin Street. Mutual Aid from the Elliott Fire Protection District was then requested in route to the scene.

According to Gibson City Fire Chief Bruce Kallal, upon arrival at approximately 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 16, a two-story structure in the above location was found to have smoke coming out of multiple openings. Crews on scene initiated an interior fire attack and ventilation operations, and the fire was extinguished in approximately 15 minutes.

Fire crews stayed on scene with smoke removal and investigation until about 1:15 a.m. The structure was found to be currently under interior construction.

The fire, smoke and water caused an estimated $15,000 in damage to the interior of the home. The cause of the fire is still undetermined, but it appears that wood finishing activities may have been occurring in the home days before.

In total, approximately 25 firefighters were on scene with eight fire trucks.
