ORLANDO, Fla. – Despite a heat advisory across Central Florida, several organizations and vendors came out to the BLK JOY festival in Orlando’s Parramore neighborhood on Saturday.

The event, put on by the Black Health Commission, aims to bring together health, wellness, Black culture and community in one place.

Organizations and vendors were set up beginning at noon just outside Camping World Stadium handing out freebies, including free produce.

This marks the 5th year of the event. Organizers say it’s only grown in that time.

It makes it accessible for people to one, be aware of the resources that are there and actually get the information that they need because it’s an intergenerational event where we have folks as old as 70-something-years-old to as young as one walking around; we have the kids zone, the moms zone, we have something for everyone,“ event organizer Rebecca Desir said.

The festival’s inaugural year saw about 200 attendees, organizers said, adding last year’s attendance was closer to 2,500.
