CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Twenty three first responders were on the scene of a house fire in Champaign Saturday morning, and now one person will be displaced.

At approximately 10:43 a.m., the Champaign Fire Department responded to the report of a fire in a single-family home in the 300 block of S Fair St. Once on scene, firefighters observed fire showing from the window of a bedroom at the front of the residence.

According to Randy Smith, a spokesperson for the Champaign Fire Department, crews deployed a single hose line to extinguish the fire. A Champaign firefighter told WCIA that the fire was under control in approximately 15 minutes.

Fire crews stayed on scene for another hour to investigate for hot spots, fire extension and a cause of the fire. At this time, the cause of the fire has not been determined.

While the house was not deemed a total loss, there is smoke and water damage at the residence. The fire was able to be contained to the room of origin: the front bedroom. There is no damage cost estimate at this time.

On scene, the Champaign Police Department assisted Champaign Fire. In all, seven apparatus and two commanding officers responded to the scene for a total of 23 first responders.
