President Donald Trump expressed his hopes for eternal salvation while discussing the ongoing efforts to establish a lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine.
During a Fox & Friends interview, he referenced the Bible, just a day after holding significant peace negotiations at the White House between the countries.
‘I want to get to heaven if possible. I’m hearing I’m not doing well. I hear I’m at the bottom of the totem pole,’ Trump said.
‘If I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons.’
Trump shared details about his private discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which took place after a crucial summit at the White House with key European leaders such as the UK’s Keir Starmer and France’s Emmanuel Macron.
Trump indicated that a successful peace deal between Ukraine and Russia might impress the keeper of the pearly gates.
‘I just want to end it. If I can save seven thousand people a week from getting killed, that’s pretty good,’ he said.
Trump said the relationship between former President Joe Biden and Putin had broken after the war in Ukraine, but that he was willing to work with the Russian president to bring about peace.

‘It was a fractured relationship … despite that, I maintained a very good relationship,’ he said about his relationship with Putin.
The president recalled the moment he and Putin disembarked from their planes and shook hands on the tarmac.
‘There’s a warmth there … there’s a decent feeling,’ he said, referring to his relationship with Putin. ‘Thats a good thing, not a bad thing.’
Trump met with Zelensky and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and others on Monday in a demonstration of public diplomacy after he met with Putin in Alaska.
The president said he wanted Putin and Zelensky to have a bilateral meeting to solve the war and make assurances to bring about peace, and even rebuild a relationship with each other to negotiate a peace.
‘It takes, in this case, two to tango, they have to have a relationship otherwise we’re just wasting our time,’ he said.
During the interview, Trump also spoke about the security commitments he made to Ukraine and European leaders to open up additional space for a peace deal with Russia.
The president repeated that he would not deploy American service members on the ground in Russia.
‘You have my assurance,’ he said.
He appeared open to deploying war planes to support Ukraine.
‘We’re willing to help them with things, especially probably … by air because there’s nobody that has the kind of stuff we have,’ he said.
Trump routinely speaks about God in his public remarks, especially among events with evangelical Christians.
‘We have to bring religion back into the country and we’re starting to do that, I think at a very high level,’ he said at a White House faith office luncheon.

The president has repeatedly expressed his belief that he was spared by God after the failed assassination attempt on his life.
‘God was with me because that’s something that in theory I should not be with you today,’ Trump said during the event as the crowd applauded. ‘I believe it that my life was saved by God to really make America great.’
