There is a report that the Duchess of Sussex is pretty unhappy with Taylor Swift now. Here’s why.
When Netflix released the trailer for the second season of Meghan Markle‘s lifestyle show, the streamer also shared that the premiere date for Season 2 of With Love, Meghan is Aug. 26. But for anyone who missed the trailer or didn’t hear that news, Meghan shared it with her followers on Instagram.
“The best moments are made to be shared [gold-sparkle emoji] With Love, Meghan returns August 26th on Netflix,” she captioned the video clip.
However, after that announcement, the former Suits star reportedly got upset with Taylor Swift.
You may be wondering what the pop superstar has to do with Meghan’s news. Well, here’s what sources have said Swift did that got Prince Harry’s wife all bent out of shape.
Claim that Meghan isn’t happy with Swift for this reason
So exactly how does Swift figure into Netflix releasing the With Love, Meghan season 2 trailer and the duchess posting about it.
According to commentator Rob Shuter’s Substack, the sources he spoke with say that Meghan was so upset with the “Anti-Hero” artist because at the same time she and Netflix were putting the word out about her show, all anyone was talking about was Swift.
That’s because the same day Meghan was hoping to dominate the headlines, she didn’t stand a chance after Swift went on Travis and his brother, Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast to reveal that she had a new album, The Life of a Showgirl, coming out.
“Meghan thought her trailer would own the news cycle,” one source claimed. “Then Taylor’s announcement came in like a wrecking ball. Meghan’s convinced it wasn’t just bad luck. She saw this as her comeback moment, then Taylor took all the oxygen out of the room.”
Meghan tried to get Swift on her podcast, but the pop star refused
Some think, if this report is true, that it’s ridiculous for Meghan to be irritated by Swift’s announcement because it’s not like the “Shake it Off” hitmaker had any idea that the duchess was announcing anything that day and purposely tried to overshadow her. Others though view it as a dose of karma since Meghan and her husband have intentionally tried to steal headlines and outshine the royal family on days they have important news to share.
But there may be another reason Meghan is annoyed with the singer, and that goes back to when the duchess tried to get Swift on her podcast.
When she was still doing her Archetypes podcast for Spotify, Meghan had the “Look What You Made Me Do” artist at the top of her guest wish list. Because Swift was someone Meghan was dying to get on her podcast, she reached out to the pop star personally via a handwritten letter asking if she would appear on an episode. But Swift rejected the invitation by having her representatives tell Meghan no.
While it’s unclear the exact reason she has refused to go on Meghan’s podcast, it should be noted that Swift has known Prince William for several years and they have a good relationship. So that could very well have played a part in her decision.
