Is love ever truly blind? This is what reality TV dating experiment Love Is Blind claims is possible, though each season there’s undeniably a man who proves to be more shallow than he claims.
In the most recent season of the Netflix show, that person might just be cast member Kal Pasha. Though he knew his fiancée was of Indian descent when he proposed to her, now he’s making curious comments about preferring blonde, white women.
Kal Admitted He Prefers Blonde Women
At first, it seemed like Kal and Sarover were fated for one another. Though he’s part Pakistani and she’s Indian, the two were able to talk things out in the pods and come to the understanding that they wouldn’t let any sort of cultural divide come between them. They bonded over other similarities, like the fact that they’re both gym rats who care deeply about taking care of their family.
To the cameras, Kal confesses that he knows Sarover is the one he wants to propose to:
I know she’s the one because of the excitement I feel before I’m getting to speak to her.
During their reveal, however, viewers couldn’t help but notice that while he referred to his fiancée as “a knockout,” he didn’t actually compliment her physical appearance at all, even though Sarovar told him that he was handsome. Once the pair made it out into the real world, Kal confessed to the cameras that, in the past, he’d exclusively dated white blonde women, making Sarover the first woman of Asian descent he’d ever been with.
Once the cast gets to meet one another in person, Kal admits that another contestant, Bardha, is more of his traditional type. Now that he’s made these kinds of comments—and now that he continues to refrain from commenting on his own partner’s appearance—fans are wondering if we’re getting a redux of Shake and Deepti from Love Is Blind Season 2, where he ultimately admitted he wasn’t physically attracted to her.
Fans Are Pointing Out A Larger Issue With The Show
Seeing the way that Shake and Kal have treated their partners is starting to make some fans think that there’s a pattern at play within the franchise. In a Reddit thread discussing the topic, one person pointed out how there have been multiple instances of POC men noting that their type has been Caucasian women, going after a WOC anyway, and then spending the duration of their relationship treating them poorly because of it:
I’m tired of POC men purposely matching with other POC women then demeaning them. It’s like they have so much inner racial hate that they don’t think they can get their preferred type – a white woman – so their next bet is to humiliate someone who looks like them to get an ego boost.
Others in the thread agreed with the observation. “Yup, and imo him banging on about his true type being white blonde girls felt very telling. He’s not feeling Sarover in person and is already laying the foundations for ending things imo,” wrote another.
In the most recent batch of episodes, the couples were spending some time together at the pool, and Sarover seemed uncomfortable as she noticed how much Kal seemed to be watching Bardha, a blonde who, by Kal’s own admission to the cameras, represents the kind of woman he would typically go for out in the real world.
The most recent episode ended before Sarover had a chance to confront Kal about it, and only time will tell if his past physical preferences will get in the way of their relationship. New episodes of the show will continue to be released on Netflix on Wednesdays.
