A man will front court today after being charged with possessing “violent extremist” and child abuse material.
The Australian Federal Police say they received intelligence about the 25-year-old man’s alleged participation in a gathering of right-wing extremists in Marsfield, in Sydney’s lower north shore.
Police allege an investigation uncovered videos of terrorist attacks and videos of minors performing sexual acts.
They allege the man is a member of several online chat groups where illegal content was discussed and disseminated.
“Possessing this material is not a victimless crime and only fuels further dissemination and the production of more harmful content,” AFP Detective Superintendent Matthew Byles said.
“Everything online can be traced, and you cannot remain anonymous behind your computer screens forever.”
Detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Holsworthy and arrested the 25-year-old.
He was charged with possessing violent extremist material and possessing child abuse material.
