Cubs host viewing for Ryne Sandberg funeral Friday

Chicago Cubs fans will remember Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg Friday as Gallagher Way hosts a viewing of his funeral.

CHICAGO (WLS) — Cubs fans here in Chicago and baseball fans around the country will remember Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg Friday.

“Ryno” as he was known to generations of fans, died last month after battling prostate cancer.

There is a private funeral with Sandberg’s family and Gallagher Way will stream the service on the video board outside Wrigley so fans can pay their respects. That starts at 10 a.m.

“The Cubs organization is grateful for the continued support of Cubs fans and their expression of compassion during this difficult time,” said Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney. “Beyond his family, Ryno’s great loves were spending time with teammates and other Cubs players and interacting with Cubs fans. We hope this public tribute provides everyone touched by Ryne’s incredible talent as a player and person an opportunity to honor his legacy and pay their respects.”

The event is free, and tickets are not required to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the Sandberg family is asking fans to take nonperishable food items to donate to Nourishing Hope and Most Blesses Trinity Food Pantry.
