Officers spoke with witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage at the scene.

Investigators say a preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and the suspect were arguing, which turned into a fight. That’s when the suspected gunman shot the victim several times.

The victim, a 26-year-old Lynwood man, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not immediately released.

The suspect was injured during the altercation and drove himself to the hospital, police said.

Officers found the suspect and escorted him into the hospital, where he remains in custody. His condition was not immediately known.

Police said schools in the area were placed on precautionary lockdowns, but there was never a threat to students and staff.

Matteson detectives will work on possible charges in the case with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, police said.

Police asked anyone with information to contact them at 708-503-3130 or submit tips through the village’s website via Tip411.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.
