The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says that a road rage incident on County Road 220 led to the shooting in a Walmart parking lot.

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. — A suspect has been arrested following a road rage incident that led to a shooting at a Walmart on Thursday night, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

CCSO states that around 7 p.m., the suspect, David Lee Garcia, was involved in a road rage incident with the victim while driving on County Road 220.

Police say that the victim pulled into a nearby Walmart Neighborhood Market, located at 2570 CR 220, where Garcia followed them. After a brief argument, Garcia had fired multiple rounds in the direction of the victim’s car, striking it and two nearby cars.

The sheriff’s office said a child and an adult were inside one of the two vehicles struck by gunfire.

The initial victim had received “superficial” injuries, which Clay County Fire Rescue treated.

Garcia was interviewed by police and arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and shooting a firearm into an occupied conveyance.

“Acts of violence, particularly those occurring on or near the roadways, will not be tolerated in Clay County,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “Driving is a privilege that comes with the responsibility of remaining calm, composed, and respectful of others to ensure everyone reaches their destination safely.”
