ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Light Orlando hosted its third annual “1 Million Meals” packing event on Saturday.
Volunteers packed the Central Florida Fairgrounds, where rows and rows of tables were full of packing supplies to help prepare 1 million meals for people dealing with food insecurity in Central Florida.
Troy Wright, program officer for Light Orlando, says they had close to 2,500 people volunteer for this year’s event.
“That’s the miracle of what’s happening here is that so many people are giving up their time, on Saturday, to get things done for the community,” Wright said. “You know we all have a light to shine. Bring that light together, we make such a huge impact that it can’t be ignored.”

Wright said he hopes volunteers will be able to feel the impact.
“That’s 1 million bellies that will have food in it in Central Florida, in our community. We want them to take that same light, we want them to take that experience, that feeling they had there today, and take it into the community and find the charities — over 65 charities that we’re helping — and find out how you can get involved and do more in the community,” Wright said.
