HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. () — The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is increasing impaired driving enforcement starting Saturday as part of a statewide initiative aimed at keeping roads safer ahead of Labor Day weekend.
“Saturation Saturday” is part of a partnership between law enforcement agencies across South Carolina and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) with the purpose of supporting the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“Driving impaired is not just breaking the law, it’s a choice that can destroy lives,” said Sheriff Anthony Russell. “We’re asking everyone to take responsibility: plan ahead, don’t drink and drive, and help us keep our community safe.”
Local drivers are encouraged to arrange for a sober ride, use taxi or rideshare services and intervene if someone is at risk of driving under the influence.
The goal of Saturation Saturday is to prevent crashes, injuries and fatalities caused by impaired driving.
