Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen’s son, Mingus Reedus, has been arrested and charged with assault for a second time.

Mingus, 25, was taken into custody around 8:40 a.m. local time on Saturday, August 23, the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to Us Weekly. He was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and assault.

Authorities also confirmed a 33-year-old woman was present at the scene with neck and leg injuries.

Representatives for Mingus, Norman and Christensen did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment.

Mingus was previously arrested in September 2021 for assaulting an unidentified woman in New York City. The alleged victim accused Mingus of punching her in the face.

Mingus later told the New York Daily News the woman and her friends were drunk and “swarmed” him, so he “threw his arm out” to defend himself. “It was instinct,” he added. “I was reacting to them swarming me and was afraid for the safety of my group.”

At the time, Mingus was in the city with his girlfriend and two friends. “We didn’t think anything of it, but these five girls followed us for two blocks, throwing food at us and yelling,” he added. “We told them to leave us alone, but they kept following, threatening to hurt my girlfriend and her friend.”

“It was very apparent that these girls were under the influence and looking for a fight,” he claimed.

The Sun reported Mingus pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to five counseling sessions in relation to the altercation. His attorney Isabelle Kirshner told People the charges were “baseless” and claimed Mingus “was the victim in this incident.”

Norman and Christensen, both 56, were together from 1998 to 2003, welcoming their son in 1999. The exes came together to celebrate their son’s high school graduation in 2018, with Christensen sharing a series of photos via Instagram of herself and her ex posing as a family.

“It was a beautiful celebration and Norman couldn’t have seemed prouder for Mingus. Mingus is a great kid and gets along well with everyone,” a source told Us at the time, calling Mingus a “kind-hearted” person. “It was a joyous family occasion and Norman and Helena were incredibly sweet and really seemed to enjoy each other’s company.”
