Real Madrid relied once again on the brilliance of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr to secure a 3-0 win over newly-promoted Real Oviedo on Sunday, despite another unconvincing display under Xabi Alonso.

Mbappe opened the account in the first half with a finish into the bottom corner after turning past his marker.

Oviedo came close to equalising in the second half, striking the post, but the Frenchman doubled Madrid’s lead late on, slotting home after being picked out by Vinicius.

Vinicius then put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time, firing in a third as Oviedo pushed bodies forward in search of a goal.

The hosts had nearly shocked Los Blancos early when Thibaut Courtois’ error presented an opening, but Dean Huijsen quickly intervened.

Federico Valverde also missed a chance to extend Madrid’s lead when Aaron Escandell pulled off a fine save.
