SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A Springfield man was arrested over the weekend after police said he fired shots and was caught with two guns he wasn’t allowed to have.

The arrest happened early Saturday morning in the area of 9th Street and Oberlin Avenue. Springfield Police officials said that just after midnight, officers responded to a report of a person with a gun; just before they arrived, a Shot Spotter in the same general location sent an alert of several rounds being fired.

“Officers arrived on scene and began investigating,” officials said. “Officers developed probable cause for a search warrant of a nearby residence. The warrant was sought and was later executed by the Springfield Police Department’s Emergency Response Team.”

45-year-old Aumaurionne Flowers was located inside that home, officials said, and officers recovered two firearms. As a convicted felon, Flowers was not supposed to have any firearms.

As a result of the investigation and the search warrant, Flowers was arrested for illegal possession of firearms and allegedly firing the shots reported earlier. The Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office filed these specific charges against him:

  • Aggravated discharge of a firearm
  • Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon by a felon (two counts)

Court records as of Monday afternoon do not indicate Flowers has appeared before a judge for arraignment and a detention hearing.
