Walker’s exit marks the first cast departure ahead of the newest season, which will kick off this fall.

NEW YORK — Devon Walker has left the cast of “Saturday Night Live” after three seasons, the comedian announced Monday on social media ahead of the NBC sketch show’s 51st season.

Walker joined in 2022 as a featured player during Season 48 before being promoted to the repertory cast for Seasons 49 and 50.

The comedian shared the news in an Instagram post featuring behind-the-scenes photos, a screenshot of a text message to someone reading “I’m out,” and a statement reflecting on his time with the late-night institution, along with the caption “me and baby broke up.”

“Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell,” Walker wrote in the post.

It’s not clear whether it was Walker’s choice to leave the show, which Walker subtly poked fun at in his announcement. The name of the computer file in the photo containing his statement reads: “wait..did he quit or did he get fired?”

In his statement, Walker described entertainment industry jobs as temporary arrangements, writing: “To me, jobs in this industry feel like a bunch of little marriages. Some of em last for a long time if we’re lucky, but most of them are fleeting. Permanent until they’re not.”

Before “SNL,” his credits included writing for Netflix’s “Big Mouth” and Freeform’s “Everything’s Trash.”

Walker’s exit marks the first departure ahead of the newest season, which will kick off this fall, with several other exits expected to follow. Walker’s news comes on the heels of SNL writers Celeste Yim and Rosebud Baker both confirming their departures from the show.

The departures come as “Saturday Night Live” prepares for its 51st season following a landmark 50th anniversary year. The show typically undergoes cast changes between seasons as contracts expire and performers pursue other opportunities.

Walker concluded his announcement: “Anyway, I’m bout to go to Japan. When I get back I’m tryna be in a prestige drama. Ideally something with Julianne Moore. Hope y’all staying hydrated and getting some money today.”
