Fire breaks about aboard USS Carney

Jacksonville Fire & Rescue confirmed 3 people were transported from Naval Station Mayport.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Sailors were treated for minor injuries after a fire was reported aboard the USS Carney at Naval Station Mayport.

Lieutenant Commander Mary Sanford told First Coast News provided the following statement:

“At approximately 11:22 a.m. (EST) today, USS Carney (DDG 64) discovered a fire onboard the ship. Shipboard personnel and base fire and emergency services rapidly responded to the fire which was quickly extinguished.  The warship and support teams will continue to methodically evaluate associated equipment prior to securing from the emergency.  All personnel have been accounted for with some Sailors being treated for minor injuries.”

Jacksonville Fire & Rescue confirmed that three people were transported from the USS Carney, but no other injuries were reported.
