Sister Wives Season 20: Is Kody Adding Another Wife To The Family?

Sister Wives will soon be returning to your TV screen for its whopping 20th season. The reality TV show follows the Browns, a group which started as a polygamist family and has since fractured into different branches.

Currently, the family’s patriarch, Kody, only remains married to one of his four wives, Robyn. But, in the trailer for the upcoming season, he teases a major shocker—that he might be considering adding another wife to the family.

Kody Mentioned Another Woman Joining The Family

In the trailer for Season 20, which was just released this past week, we see Kody and Robyn having a candid conversation about their future. There’s one scene where Kody drops what could be a bombshell on Robyn, talking about a message that he received:

I got another one of those emails from some woman, asking sort of, like, to get to know us for the purpose of joining the family.

Before we can get more context for the scene, or see what Robyn’s reaction to the email is, the trailer moves on to other moments from the season, leaving it a mystery. That said, Kody’s admission does come as a surprise—viewers of the show will recall that, in the most recent seasons of the show, he’s been vocal about no longer having an interest in plural marriage.

In fact, in Kody’s special tell-all episode, which aired back in June, he was sure to set the record straight once and for all. When the interviewer asked if he’d ever consider bringing another wife into the family, he said, “H*** no. And I’ll tell you why, because we already failed. I would never try plural marriage again.”

“I’m not interested in plural marriage anymore. I don’t want to pursue another woman because I don’t want the headache. I’m not in that space,” he added. Considering this confession over the summer, it makes it all the more surprising that the Season 20 trailer would tease otherwise.

Robyn Might Want Something Different

While Kody was once married to four women, now he only remains legally to Robyn, as the other three women have since divorced him. For her part, Robyn has been vocal about how, unlike her husband’s perspective, she had always wanted to adhere to the polygamist lifestyle. Now that Kody’s other wives had left the family, she’d found it to be a challenging adjustment.

In her own tell-all interview, Robyn opened up about how she felt like her ideal lifestyle had been robbed from her:

I had a different plan for my life. I was going to live [in] a plural marriage. I was going to be a part of a big picture, a big family. That’s been taken away from me.

That said, Robyn did double down on her loyalty to Kody during the interview. “I always choose Kody. However it is, it’s with Kody,” she emphasized. Longtime viewers of the show will know that the pair have been together ever since her introduction to the show in 2010, meaning this season will mark nearly 15 years of their relationship.

For the rest of Kody’s exes, Season 20 appears to be full of new adventures as they embrace the single life. In other scenes of the trailer, we see that Meri is trying out speed dating, and, in another scene, she and Janelle video chat and discuss a “spiritual divorce” from Kody once and for all. “I think I’m ready,” Janelle tells her. “I love that you’re doing this, Janelle,” Meri replies.

Much of the rest of the season is likely going to cover the land dispute over the property in Arizona called Coyote Pass. The land was previously co-owned by Kody and his ex-wives, and since their separation, figuring out how to divide up the land has proven contentious. Though we got whispers of the drama last season, Season 21’s episodes will fully dive into the situation.

From what we know so far, Kody didn’t want to settle so easily with his exes, and Robyn is clearly on his side. At one moment of the trailer, she stresses to the cameras, “This is bulls***. I’m not selling this land until everything is perfectly fair and we do this the right way. Sorry.”

“There’s been more effort put into creating pain and hurting each other. [It] makes me angry,” she added. The new season of the show will air on September 28th, only on TLC.
