TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Drier air has worked its way into areas along and north of I-4. This is making for a relatively comfortable morning in Citrus and Hernando County, the rest of us are still dealing with mild temperatures and humidity.

Drier air will continue to work its way south and lead to lower rain chances today and more sunshine returning to areas along and north of I-4. Hillsborough, Polk and Pinellas and points north that see more sunshine will have warmer temperatures with highs in the mid-90s for the first time since last week.

Areas south of I-4 will see some spotty showers and a good amount of cloud cover.

Most areas will be dry tonight with relatively comfortable temperatures. After a nice start Thursday, the sunshine returns for everyone Thursday afternoon with hotter temperatures and highs in the mid-90s.

Rain chances will increase to a 30 to 40% with a normal summer afternoon thunderstorms that drift inland through the evening. A similar pattern is in place Friday with a slightly better coverage of afternoon storms.

Tropical moisture moves back in over the weekend increasing rain chances once again. Showers and thunderstorms will be abundant but mainly in the afternoon Saturday.

Even higher rain chances return on Sunday with passing downpours possible at any time for the second half of the weekend with a 70% rain chance. Unfortunately, the soggy pattern sticks around for Labor Day with rain chances at a 70% and passing downpours possible at any time.

Temperatures will come down into the upper 80s close to 90 as rain chances go up this weekend.

Slightly drier conditions will return for the middle of next week.

The tropics are much quieter with Tropical Storm Fernand moving into the northern Atlantic and remains no threat to land.

New tropical development is not expected over the next 7 days with a lull in the activity expected through the end of next week. After that, the tropics will likely reawaken again in mid-September.
