An Indiana jury found a Madison County man guilty last week in the shooting death of his wife, who was found sitting next to him in an SUV with multiple gunshot wounds.

Jeremy Hinson, 49, faces 50 to 65 years in prison when he is sentenced next month, the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office said.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, a 911 caller alerted deputies to a dark-colored SUV sitting in back of Forrestville Cemetery on June 26, 2024. The caller reported seeing two people inside who were unresponsive when they knocked on the window.

Deputies found 47-year-old Michela Hinson in the driver’s seat with “multiple gunshot wounds.” Jeremy Hinson was in the passenger seat and was initially unresponsive, but then woke up and got out of the car.

Court documents say he had a handgun in a holster in his waistband and a magazine in his front pants pocket — and blood spatter on his forehead, eyelid, arms, hands, and down to his ankles, WTHR reported. His wife was shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen, and there were spent shell casings on the driver’s floor and between the driver’s seat and door.

Jeremy Hinson was taken to a hospital for observation before he was booked into jail on a murder charge.

The court documents say that Hinson confessed to the murder to a family member who visited him in jail.

“I feel most bad for the boys,” he reportedly said during the recorded visit, referring to the couple’s two children. “Obviously, I wasn’t thinking right. I don’t know what happened to make me do that, but tell them I love them.”

Despite the recorded confession, Hinson pleaded not guilty and forced a trial.

Michela Hinson was a bus driver for the Anderson School Systems and the Anderson City Transportation CATS bus, according to an obituary.
