Texas police have arrested a man after a 6-month-old girl was reportedly found dead in a hot car on Tuesday.

Heath police said the girl was found dead in a vehicle parked outside Rockwall Heath High School. An investigation determined that Camerone Leichman, 36, — who recently became the infant’s caregiver  — failed to take her to daycare after dropping off his wife at the high school, according to KXAS.

Police also believe the baby was left all day in the car outside the couple’s home. She was not discovered until Leichman drove back to the high school to get his wife, according to KXAS.

Authorities suspect the 6-month-old was in the car for eight hours. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Since then, Heath police announced Leichman’s arrest on charges of injury to a child. Bond has not been set.

The 6-month-old girl is reportedly the 25th child to die in a hot car this year. According to No Heat Stroke, 39 children died in hot cars in 2024.
