ORLANDO, Fla. – Stormy and soggy weather is on the way for the holiday weekend, bringing daily storm chances, heavy rain and the risk of flooding to Central Florida.

THURSDAY

Expect isolated showers to pop up near the coast early Thursday, then spread inland with the sea breeze through the afternoon and evening hours. Rain coverage returns back to normal at 50-60%.

The storm activity will be hit-or-miss, producing heavy rain at times. Expect frequent lightning, gusty winds up to 50 mph and brief downpours that could quickly drop 1-3 inches of rain. A few stronger storms could also bring small hail.

By Thursday evening, activity will drift back toward the coast and should move offshore by midnight.

FRIDAY-WEEKEND

A mix of deep tropical moisture and a stalled front will set the stage for repeated rounds of showers and storms each afternoon and evening. Rain and storm chances rise to 70-80% areawide, with heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds possible each day.

With saturated conditions and storms forming over the same areas, there’s a growing risk for localized flooding, especially by Saturday and Sunday. A Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall is already in place for most of the area.

Some spots could see 2–4 inches of rain through the weekend, especially in areas that get multiple rounds of storms.

Neighborhoods near the St. Johns River, including Astor, should stay on alert as levels will be on the rise.

While the weekend will NOT be a washout, when it rains it could rain hard and fast.

With a busy holiday weekend ahead, stay weather-aware, especially if you’ll be outdoors. When thunder roars, go indoors!

NEXT WEEK

The unsettled pattern holds through at least Tuesday, with rain chances staying high (70–80%).

The front slowly drifts south by midweek, which may help bring slightly drier air by Wednesday or Thursday.
