WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A man died after allegedly firing at deputies and then being shot by return fire in Washington County, Virginia early on Monday.
According to a news release from the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), deputies responded to a home in the Evergreen Hills subdivision of Bristol, Virginia due to an alarm call.
Deputies were called around 12:52 a.m. and arrived to find an armed man inside of the home, the WCSO reports.
“The subject fired at deputies, and deputies returned fire, fatally striking the individual,” the WCSO stated.
The owners of the home were not present when the officer-involved shooting took place, and no deputies were injured.
The sheriff’s office stated there was no ongoing threat to the community.
The WCSO stated the Virginia State Police and the Washington County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office are assisting in the investigation into the shooting, and more information will be released when it is available.
