URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — David Subers and Joy O’Keefe joined WCIA 3’s Taylor Mitchell in the studio on Wednesday to talk about the Urbana Park District’s upcoming bat festival.

The second annual Central Illinois Bat Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 6.

Attendees can expect food trucks, talks from experts about bats, face painting, a costume contest and more. The event will kick off at the Anita Purves Nature Center from 1-4 p.m. Then, it will transition over to the Lake House at Crystal Lake Park from 5:30-8 p.m.

There will even be the chance to see a bat for yourself at the end of the night.

“And then we’ll have a night walk where we listen for bats. And we’ll watch the bats emerge from the trees and the woods around Crystal Lake,” O’Keefe said.
