AUGUSTA () – As the Director of Cooperative Communications for Jefferson Energy, Tamika Lampkin leads the company’s efforts toward giving light and support to others.
Recently, Tamika found herself on the receiving end.
Although this surprise rendered Tamika Lampkin speechless, the work she does at Jefferson Energy, and in the community, speaks volumes about her.
“I do a lot! I work in the community. I work with organizations. I try to promote grants. I try to promote scholarships. We go into the schools, we go into summer camps. We deal with the less fortunate as much as we can. We try to teach electrical safety as much as we can,” she explains.
She also uses her life to teach lessons that didn’t come from books or school.
As a teen mother, she worked through the ups and downs of raising a Son and trying to make ends meet.
“I go into schools on my off time and I mentor young ladies mostly. I was a young mother. I had my son at 19 and I finished college and I finished secondary degrees and all that great stuff. I just want to let young ladies know that it is possible, it can happen. It may not be the best way to do it, but, don’t give up.”
Instead of giving up in life, she leaned into new opportunities which created a pathway in the right direction.
“I’ve made so many pivots. I worked in local news. I’ve worked in local offices and now I’m at Jefferson Energy. I would have never imaged working for an energy company and do the things I went to school to be able to do. But, I love it. I love the community work. I love working with people and talking with people.”
She has this advice for other women facing decisions and finding themselves in dark spaces of life.
“As long as you keep God first and ask him to lead you, I tried it on my own, I tried to push it and take my own path and try to figure it out and say ‘God this is what I want.’ But, as long as you let your spirit guide you, you’ll be fine.”
