TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. () Tybee Island Maritime Academy (TIMA) announced Thursday the school has been recognized by the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) as a 2025 School of Distinction.

TIMA earned this honor through a rigorous review process, including a comprehensive school-wide assessment, continuous improvement planning and interviews with staff, students and families. The evaluation highlighted STEAM culture, place-based interdisciplinary learning, and strong community partnerships as standout strengths.

Peter Ulrich, executive director of TIMA, said the award is the result of a team effort. ”This recognition reflects the dedication of our students, educators and the Tybee community who make this school such a special place.”

“It is an honor to recognize Tybee Island Maritime Academy as a 2025 AMLE School of Distinction,” said Stephanie Simpson, CEO of AMLE. “Their dedication to fostering a thriving middle school community sets a powerful example and we’re excited to share their story with educators worldwide.”

Tybee Island Maritime Academy will present its achievements at the AMLE20 convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, in November.
