Kyle Myvett earned the title of “Cape Coral’s Greatest Detective” after aiding police in an early morning burglary arrest.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A man in Southeast Cape Coral is the newest face to don the title of the Caped Crusader, but in a more comfortable way.

The Cape Coral Police Department, stated in a Facebook post that officers responded to a burglary in progress early Wednesday morning.

Police say that upon an officer’s arrival, they found a puzzling sight that would even leave The Riddler in awe; the burglary suspect had already been detained by a neighbor wearing Batman pajamas.

The neighbor, Kyle Myvett, told police that his security cameras alerted him of suspicious activity outside his home. Still dressed in his pajamas, he stepped outside to find the suspect had broken into his truck.

Myvett told police that moments after, he saw the suspect in his neighbor’s garage and leaped into action, detaining the suspect until officers arrived.

The suspect, who police identified as Justin Schimpl, had previously been on law enforcement’s radar due to prior investigations.

Schimpl alleged that another person was with him during the incident, but police say the name of that person had changed multiple times. No other suspects were reportedly found after both an air and ground search.

Detectives say that Schimpl had allegedly stolen the following:

  • Two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses, valued at $300 each
  • Cash
  • A woman’s wristlet
  • More than $500 in gift cards

Schimpl is charged with two counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, two counts of petit theft under $750, and one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling.

Currently, Schimpl is being held at the Lee County Jail.
