Man, woman stabbed in 'mistaken identity' attack in Sydney home

A man and a woman are in hospital after they were stabbed multiple times in a home invasion believed by police to be a result of mistaken identity in Sydney.

At about 11pm overnight, emergency services were called to a home on McCredie Road in Guildford West.

Police were told two men wearing face coverings had broken in through the front door.

A 41-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, who both lived at the home, were attacked and stabbed multiple times.

Three children, all aged under 10, were also in the home and were not physically hurt.

The two men fled the home when neighbours intervened.

The men got into a white sedan driven by a third man that was parked outside the home.

They drove south along Lomond Street.

The injured man and woman were taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Police say the incident is believed to be a case of mistaken identity.
