MIDLOTHIAN, Ill. (WLS) — It was a drive down memory lane for hundreds of car enthusiasts in Midlothian on Saturday morning.

“It’s a camaraderie of guys having a great time all being together, you know?” said car show enthusiast Ken Sargis.

Saturday marked the 7th Annual St. Augustine Parish Car Show, a chance to see some colorful classic cars spanning decades.

“Every year, it gets bigger,” said St. Augustine Car Show Co-Chair Jack Marquette. “More than cars, it’s kind of a social thing. Everybody knows everybody.”

Marquette says well over a hundred cars were on display for this year’s show. From Mustangs to Corvettes, and even a timeless VW wagon, you never know what you might spot.

“Last year, we had a very unusual Radio Flyer wagon mounted on a truck chassis. I don’t even know how to describe it,” Marquette said.

“I’ve tinkered with cars all my life but never to this extent,” said car enthusiast Dennis Mahoney, of Finley Park.

Mahoney says it took him a decade to restore a spectacular 1955 Chevy Bel Air.

It is a labor of love that pays off when people come by to ask him about this 10-year project.

“It makes me feel good that they ask so many questions,” Mahoney said. “They enjoy seeing the craftsmanship that’s in the car.”

“Building it is as much fun as driving it,” said car enthusiast Ed McCormick, of Frankfort. “If I had more garage space, I’d build another one.”

ABC7 caught up with McCormick and his 1965 bright blue Shelby Cobra. It is a beauty he, too, built himself.

“It’s great. Everybody is so nice. They ask questions. The kids love it. It’s a great atmosphere,” McCormick said.
