Texas, Arch Manning cost bettor $1 million after Ohio State loss

One whale got burned by Arch Manning and Texas on Saturday.

A bettor from Caesars Sportsbook placed a massive $1 million bet on the Longhorns to defeat Ohio State, marking it as the largest reported wager in the early stages of the college football season.

That money went ka-poof in just 60 minutes of action.

As slight underdogs at most major sportsbooks, Texas lost, 14-7, during a miserable performance from Manning and the Longhorns’ offense.

The bet would’ve won the unknown sports gambler $952,380.95.

Although victories and losses are a collective effort, many Longhorns supporters are largely blaming Manning, who delivered a disappointing performance during his debut week as Texas’ starting quarterback.

Manning went 17-for-30, throwing for 170 yards, one touchdown and one interception during the loss.

Most of those yards came as the Longhorns desperately tried to get back in the game after falling down 14-0.

The Heisman Trophy hopeful and potential No. 1 overall pick had fewer than 30 passing yards at the half.

Texas was popular among sports bettors heading into the contest.

The Longhorns received the most money and bets among all Top 25 games on Saturday at BetMGM Sportsbook.

About two-thirds of the handle at BetMGM was on Texas to cover the spread.

Betting on College Football?

Texas entered the season as a top contender for the national championship, but following a disappointing defeat in Columbus, their odds have slipped to fourth place on FanDuel Sportsbook’s board.

Manning, who was the preseason Heisman favorite, now has the third-best odds to win the award behind Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik and LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who are both +700.
