Storm Team 3: Warmer days ahead, showers possible mid-week

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Labor Day was a fantastic day weatherwise. Afternoon highs only warmed into the lower 80s, and low humidity made for comfortable conditions.

We did have a strong breeze throughout the day and will remain strong again for Tuesday.

Dangerous rip currents and high surf is expected for the Georgia and South Carolina beaches because of the strong onshore wind.

A mix of clouds and sunshine is expected for Tuesday afternoon along with highs reaching the mid to upper 80s for most locations. Humidity levels will remain low.

A system that is located over the mid-section of the country will help a few showers and storms to develop on Wednesday and Thursday as it is swinging through the southeast.

The week will wrap up hot and humid for Friday and into the weekend. Afternoon highs will warm back into the lower 90s. More storms are possible early next week.

Sept. 1 marks the start of metrological fall and is a moth of dropping temperatures. The average high now is 89°F but drops to just 83°F by the end of the month.

Very hot days are still possible. The all-time record high for September is 102°F was set on 4th in 1925.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a tropical wave for potential development that is moving off of the West coast of Africa.

It has a medium (60%) chance of becoming a tropical depression or tropical storm over the next five to seven days.

The environment that this system will be moving into will support some slow development. Long-range guidance indicates that it will initially move west and then more west-northwest over the next week or so.

There is no threat to the U.S. at this time.
