A man has been charged with stealing $250,000 of children’s toys, including 1700 boxes of Lego.

South Australia Police attended a Royal Park address in Adelaide’s north-west on Saturday as part of Operation Measure, an effort to thwart retail theft.

During a search of the property, police found around 2500 different toys, the majority of which were boxes of Lego.

The haul had an estimated value of $250,000, and the goods are believed to have been stolen from different department stores across Adelaide.

It is alleged that these were then planned to be sold on online websites.

The haul of toys was so large, three trucks were required to move all of the toys from the house.

A 41-year-old man was arrested and charged with theft and unlawful possession.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Metropolitan Operations Service John De Candia said the arrest was a result of collaboration between the retail industry and police.

“The size of the haul is significant and indicates the depth of the alleged offending we will allege has been taking place,” he said.

The man will appear in Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on September 30.
