() President Donald Trump has said his administration is looking to get an appeal from the Supreme Court in order to protect his tariffs.

On Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled Trump went too far when he declared national emergencies to justify sweeping tariffs without congressional approval.

The International Emergency Economic Powers Act authorizes the president to issue certain economic sanctions to counter an “unusual and extraordinary threat” in an emergency, but it does not permit the president’s sweeping moves.

“If you took away tariffs, we could end up being a third-world country,” Trump said during a news conference Tuesday. He added that his administration will ask the Supreme Court for an “expedited” ruling to keep the tariffs in place.

When asked if tariffs on India would be reduced, Trump said while the U.S. and India are in good standing, the two nations have been in a “one-sided relationship” when it came to trade and that the relationship is now changing to an equal partnership.

Trump also commented on different companies coming to the U.S. to do their manufacturing here, saying they’re doing so because “they want to be here.”

“When you build here, you don’t have any tariffs,” Trump said.
