Donald Trump has accused Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin of “conspiring against the United States” in a heated social media post.
The president said he hoped American soldiers would be honoured in the parade.
“The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and “blood” that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader,” Trump wrote.
“Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope that they are rightfully Honored and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice!”
Trump then wished China’s President Xi Jinping and the people of China a “great and lasting day of celebration”.
He ended his post with a scathing message for the leaders of Russia and North Korea.
“Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America,” Trump said.
Trump did not attend the parade, nor did any US representatives, in protest of Putin’s attendance.
Trump earlier told reporters that he has a “very good relationship” with President Xi.
Putin and Kim flanked Xi as they arrived at the parade in Beijing today, before they headed to a viewing platform on the gate that looks out on Tiananmen Square.
The parade, which marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, will showcase missiles, modern fighter jets and other military might as China seeks to wield greater influence on the global stage.
