World leaders have gathered in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square to commemorate the 80th anniversary of World War II.

In front of a 10,000-strong crowd, Chinese leader Xi Jinping praised armed forces and and China was ready to take a leading role in the world.

Following the address, a parade showcased military hardware and featured troops marching in rhythmic lockstep.
