Angel Reese clarifies critical Sky comments

Angel Reese apologized to her teammates for the strong comments that she made in an interview with a Chicago outlet.

Reese openly criticized the Sky and suggested exploring “a different direction” if the team didn’t significantly improve during the offseason, as mentioned in an article in the Chicago Tribune. She also appeared to criticize several of her teammates.

The Sky star walked some of that back following Chicago’s 88-64 win over the Sun on Wednesday night, when she had 18 points and 13 rebounds.

“I don’t think I’m frustrated. I’m more frustrated with myself right now,” Reese commented when asked by a reporter about the article. “I believe the language was misconstrued, and I never intended to blame my teammates, as they have been with me all year long. They’ve worked hard just as I have. They’ve supported me through thick and thin in the locker room when no one else could see.”

Earlier, Reese told the Tribune that she doubted whether Rachel Banham and Hailey Van Lith could lead the Sky into the playoffs, and expressed concerns about relying on Courtney Vandersloot, who had torn her ACL earlier this season.

Reese also said that she and Kamilla Cardoso were the only guarantees for the 2026 Sky roster.

Her teammates were aware of the comments in the article and were not happy with them, with a meeting planned to address Reese, Front Office Sports reported.

“I would apologize to my teammates, which I already have, about the article and about how it was misconstrued about what was said,” Reese said. “I just have to be better with my language because I know it’s not the message, it’s the messenger, and understanding that what I say can be taken any kind of way.

“So I have to be better and grow from this.”

Sky coach Tyler Marsh told reporters that he spoke to Reese before Wednesday’s game, but didn’t want to divulge the contents of the conversation.

He also confirmed that the players had a meeting with Reese to address the situation.

“I think that everyone had their opportunities to speak, and we’ll leave it at that,” Marsh said.
