An Arizona man accused of murdering his girlfriend and her dog and then calling his ex to boast about it has been found guilty.

Taton Dorfman, 30, was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder for the killing of 30-year-old Hannah Rogers, local Tucson CBS affiliate KOLD reported.

Dorfman committed the crime on the night of July 28, 2024.

He shot Rogers in the head, killing her, and he also shot and killed her dog, authorities said. Then, he called his ex-girlfriend.

According to local ABC affiliate KGUN, the suspect called his ex-girlfriend on FaceTime and showed himself lying next to Rogers’ body, with blood around her head.

“I killed her! I did it!” he reportedly exclaimed.

The ex-girlfriend is said to have taken screenshots and reported the crime to police. Officers arrived at the crime scene on the 5400 block of West Mosquito Drive at about 10:30 p.m. and tried to speak with Dorfman, the Marana Police Department said, but he “barricaded himself in the residence for several hours.”

During the standoff, Dorfman admitted to killing Rogers and said he was going to kill himself. With help from the Pima County SWAT team, officers convinced Dorfman to exit the house at 3:30 a.m. the following morning. According to KOLD, Dorfman had blood on his face and hands but no injuries.

Police officers said they found a large amount of drug paraphernalia and alcohol inside the home, as well as Rogers’ body and the dead dog. Dorfman was arrested and charged with murder and cruelty to animals.

A GoFundMe created for Rogers described her as “a beautiful, smart and funny woman.”

“She lit up rooms with her smile,” it goes on. “She was caring for all life, and would always be there for anyone in need of help. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. We are still in disbelief that this has happened.”

Dorfman is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 20.

Marana is about 20 miles northwest of Tucson, Arizona.
