SAVANNAH, Ga. () – With the first full week of college football now in the books, we have a quick recap of our weekly matchups and a preview of the games taking place this weekend around Georgia.

#4 Georgia vs Marshall – Georgia showed why they have been a top program these past few years as players stepped into new roles with no drop off at all. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 45-7 win over the Marshall Thundering Herd.

The Georgia offense was led by Junior QB Gunner Stockton, who was 14 of 24 for 190 yards and two touchdowns on the day. Stockton also led the Bulldogs’ rushing attack with two touchdowns on 10 carries for 73 yards.

Georgia only allowed one score on the day, which came in the fourth quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Junior RB Jo’Shon Barbie.

Georgia’s next matchup will be against the 1-0 Austin Peay Governors at 3:30 on Saturday.

Georgia Southern at Fresno State – Georgia Southern’s West Coast opener to the 2025 season did not go as planned. The Eagles start the season 0-1 following a 42-14 loss to the Fresno State Bulldogs.

Junior QB JC French got his season off to a good start by going 17 of 28 for 158 yards. French through two touchdowns against one interception on the day.

The Eagles’ main struggle on the day was on the defensive side of the ball. Georgia Southern gave up 351 total yards on the ground. Fresno State’s rushing attack accounted for five touchdowns.

Georgia Southern will play its second game of the season in the Pacific timezone as they take on Lincoln Riley’s 1-0 USC Trojans. The Trojans opened the season with a 73-13 win over Missouri State.

Georgia Southern and USC will face off at 7:30 p.m. on FS1

Georgia Tech at Colorado – The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets got the season off on the right track with a 27-20 win on the road over the Colorado Buffaloes.

Senior QB Haynes King led the attack, going 13 of 20 for 143 yards through the air. King also led the rushing attack for the Yellow Jacket offense with 19 carries for 156 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Georgia Tech is now preparing to face the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs. Gardner-Webb is off to a 1-0 start as well, following a 52-45 week one win over Western Carolina. The Yellow Jackets head into the matchup as a heavy favorite at home.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Savannah State vs Edward Waters University – The Tigers’ 2025 season kicked off in a less-than-desired way as they fell to Edward Waters University 41-14.

Savannah State finished the day with 236 yards of total offense (137 passing and 99 rushing). Redshirt Junior QB Christian Burks was 12 of 21 for 132 yards and one interception on the day.

State’s two scores on the day came from rushing touchdowns by Senior RBs Joseph Hampton and David Gardner, Jr.

Savannah State will look to rebound as they welcome Shorter University to Theodore A. Wright Stadium in Savannah at 6:00 p.m. this Saturday.

Atlanta Falcons vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Atlanta will open week one of the 2025 season as underdogs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons announced this offseason that second-year QB Michael Penix Jr. would be the player caller for the team this coming season.

Penix Jr. should have plenty of weapons around him this year. His backfield partner, Bijan Robinson, rushed for almost 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2024. The team also currently has two top talents at the wide receiver position wth Darnell Mooney and Drake London. The duo combined for over 2,000 yards (Drake 1,271 and Mooney 992) and 14 touchdowns (Drake 9 and Mooney 5) last year.

The Falcons open the season against a Bucs team that ended the 2025 season with a loss in the wildcard round of the playoffs to the Washington Commanders.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
