BRUNSWICK, Ga. () — Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) agents are investigating after patrol officers and a Brunswick man exchanged gunfire Aug. 30.

On Aug. 30, Glynn County Police Department (GCPD) officers responded to the Motel 6 on at 3040 Scarlett St. regarding a possible domestic violence incident when they encountered an armed man.

David Kevin Griffis allegedly pointed a gun at the officers, which prompted the responding patrol officers and Griffis exchanged gunfire, officials said. No one was injured in the exchange.

Griffis reportedly surrendered after officers deployed tear gas and pepper spray.

Griffis was charged with four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

He was taken to the Glynn County Jail after being medically cleared, the GBI said.

After the GBI conducts their investigation into the use of force, the case file will be given to the Brunswick District Attorney’s Office for review, officials said.
