SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Friday featured hot and humid conditions making a return to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.

Temperatures topped out in the upper 80s and lower 90s for the area, with humidity adding a heat index of around 95°-100°. Mainly sunny skies did not help provide any clouds or rain for relief.

Southeasterly flow will help keep it feeling like late summer for the area with warm and muggy mornings in the low-70s, and afternoons in the upper 80s to lower 90s. More cloud cover will be around Saturday, and especially Sunday. Heat index numbers will be between 95° and 100°.

A slow-moving cold front will make its way into our region by Sunday morning. Expect moisture to pool along the boundary as it stalls just offshore. A 20% chance of showers and a rumble of thunder or two is expected Sunday afternoon, but a majority of the area and the day will be dry.

The front stalling out and deeper moisture moving in will further focus moisture and bring higher rain chances for the start of the week. Monday and Tuesday will have the chance of scattered storms.

Tracking the Tropics

In the tropics, a tropical wave located between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Caribbean continues to slowly work westward.

Dry air and a lack of thunderstorm activity have led to Invest 91-L struggling over the course of Friday. The National Hurricane Center has dropped the chance of development to 60%.

Computer models have backed off on the future intensity of this system. The system is moving very slowly and it will organize slowly too, if it manages to overcome the hostile environment. The system will bear watching if it manages to track westward.

There are no tropical threats to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry at this time.
